Binance is sounding the alarm over the ongoing detention of its employee, Tigran Gambaryan, in Nigeria. It’s been six months since Gambaryan’s arrest, and Binance CEO Richard Teng is urging the US government to step in and bring him home.

Teng says there’s strong evidence that Gambaryan’s detention is illegal and that the Nigerian government is violating his human rights. He’s particularly concerned about Gambaryan’s health, which has deteriorated significantly while in custody.

The situation is dire. Gambaryan is in severe pain and needs medical attention, but the Nigerian authorities have been denying him necessary care. Teng has even accused them of refusing to provide a wheelchair for Gambaryan, despite court orders.

It is important to note that Gambaryan’s arrest was in March and since then, two U.S. congressmen have urged the Nigerian government to release him from detention. A signed petition of over 5,000 signatures, created by Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, also failed to change the minds of the Nigerian government.

Now, Binance is calling on the US government to intervene and secure Gambaryan’s release. In a recent press statement, he said:

“I sincerely hope that the American government and political system can use its influence to bring Tigran home quickly so that he can receive proper treatment and be reunited with his family and loved ones.

“I once again call on the Nigerian government to allow him to return home to his family on humanitarian grounds so that he can seek the necessary medical treatment in the US, recover, and return to the healthy and active life he once led.”
